WOODY TESTIMONIAL

Join us to celebrate, who is quite frankly, a true YM legend!

Steve Woodrow hung up his boots earlier this season but there was no way we could let him go out quietly. So on Saturday 17th May 2025 at The Cauldron we will hold a legends game to honour his service to the club against Southbank FC, a club Woody also played for.

Woody made his debut for Reading YMCA FC in 1991 at the age of 18. Starting out as a tricky winger with pinpoint delivery & goal scoring threat, Steve was a key member of the team that rose from the Thames Valley League (then the Reading Football League) Division Two to the Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s.

When the Reading YMCA Rapids were formed in 2007, Steve transitioned into that squad and forged a new career as a left back at the tender age of 34. Also, briefly managing the side a couple of years later along with player Mark Isley. Steve has been an ever present in the side since then.

Amazingly, despite making over 700 appearances for the club, Steve actually missed 2 seasons during his 30+ year playing career with Reading YMCA FC. In 1992 Steve had a season away from the club to play at a higher level and in 2006 decided to retire, only to be tempted back the following season.

Steve’s longevity is a testimony to his fitness levels, technical ability & love for the club. His contributions also extend beyond the pitch and he sits on the Reading YMCA FC committee helping to guide the club into the future.

The game will also be followed by our end of season awards presentation and further details of the event will be announced closer to the day.
